It was obviously in the United States that Fender first developed its production capacity from 1946 on its creation date and particularly during the 1950s/1960s.

Then came the Japanese factories at the dawn of the 1980s with the creation of Fender Japan in 1982.

And finally, less than a decade later, in 1991, the first catalog of Fender “Made in Mexico” instruments appeared.

Indeed, it was a few years before 1991 that Fender became interested in producing in Mexico, more precisely in Ensenada, a 3 hour drive from their factory in Corona, California.

CBS, then owner of Fender, had already been using a Mexican company to package strings since 1985, but this was after the sale of Fender to a group of senior employees of the brand, under the direction of Bill C. Schultz, that same year, that Fender's strategy evolved.

In fact, it was at the end of the 1980s, and with the growing demand for the brand's products, that Fender realized that they could set up an instrument production factory in Mexico.

Thus, from a church converted into a string packaging company, the Fender production factory in Mexico was established on Calle Huerta on the southern edge of Ensenada, a location it still occupies today.

Fender then called on Fujigen, the company that manufactured Fender guitars in Japan, to develop its guitar production in Ensenada.

The first employees of the factory were therefore trained at the Fujigen factory by replicating the processes and layout of the Matsumoto factory.

All ready, it was in January 1991 that Fender launched its first catalog of instruments made in Mexico.

In 1992, Standard Stratocaster's daily production exceeded 175 guitars, where a few years later they were able to produce 600 instruments per day.

Thus, this 1992 Fender Standard Stratocaster presented here for sale is a historical witness to the beginnings of Fender Mexico production.
