In the early 1970s, he began playing in local blues clubs and quickly became noted for his energetic and passionate playing style. In 1982, he signed with the Epic Records label and released his debut album, "Texas Flood", which received critical acclaim and launched his career worldwide.

During the 1980s, Stevie Ray Vaughan achieved notable commercial and critical success with albums such as "Couldn't Stand the Weather" and "Soul to Soul."
