Hondo II

Hondo II Professional MIJ Matsumoku (Fender Lead 1 Copy) 1980/1981

€360

In 1979, Fender released the Fender Lead 1, the aim of which was to create a guitar less expensive than the Stratocaster, but with equally attractive design and capabilities.

In the process, Hondo, a brand founded in 1969 when Jerry Freed and Tommy Moore of the International Music Corporation (IMC) joined forces with the Korean manufacturer Samick Company, will release a similar model copying that of Fender.

The brand was also one of the first guitar manufacturers abroad to offer American-made DiMarzio pickups on imported instruments starting in 1978.

And it was in 1980 that the Professional series, of which the guitar offered for sale here is part, was introduced, with high-end models, produced by Tokai and Matsumoku in Japan.

Here is a beautiful example in Mocha color, using the finish introduced by Fender in the 1970s.
