Maitrot

Maitrot Romantic Guitar in Mirecourt 1820's / 1830's

€4.200

Very beautiful romantic guitar made by François Maitrot in Mirecourt between the 1820s and 1830s.

François Maitrot was born on October 9, 1785 in Tollaincourt. He married Marguerite Henry in Mirecourt in 1819 and died in the same town where he had been teaching for decades in 1854.

Son of Symphorien Maitrot and Jeanne Leclerc, he was cited by René Vannes as a guitar manufacturer producing a beautiful rosewood veneered violin, with edges and fillets in ivory and ebony, mentioning a handwritten label.

And this is indeed a description, admittedly summary, but fairly accurate, of the guitar that we are offering here for sale, unlike the body here in mahogany.

Very good construction, giving reason to René Vannes' opinion, finely decorated, in remarkable condition and fully playable, this guitar presents itself as a testimony, both aesthetic and sonic, of what the guitar was at the beginning of the 19th century, 200 years ago now.

So it will appeal to all enthusiasts, both collectors and guitarists.
