Hagström Standard 80 (P-24) 1960's

Albin Hagström was born in 1905 in Sweden.

Passionate about the accordion, he founded the brand bearing his name: Hagström in 1921.

If at first he simply distributed accordions imported from Germany, in 1932, faced with the success of his distribution business, he decided to begin manufacturing his own instruments.

First he made accordions, and it was his successors in 1958, 6 years after Albin's death, who decided to design the first electric guitars.

Indeed, as the 1960s approached, Hagström saw the sale of accordions decline significantly.

And Sweden not being spared by rock'n'roll, Hagström as distributor will have had the opportunity to realize the enormous demand from the public for new types of instruments.

This is how, from the manufacturing raw materials for overstocked accordions (glittered plastic materials, push buttons, etc.), Hagström designed his first electric guitar, the P-46 Deluxe and then the P-24, being the version two microphones of the P-46.

The particularity of its guitars, in addition to the look and the construction materials, is its ingenious electronic system.

The microphones as well as the controls are all contained in a box, which is connected to the output jack using another mini-jack socket.

In this way, then as today, the musician can change his electronic configuration by simply changing the case without soldering.

Thus, this original guitar for the time found its audience and met with great success among musicians of the Yé-Yé period.

The brand was then very quickly contacted by the American distributor who owned the Goya brand, who was already sourcing its acoustic guitars from Levin.

And as a result Hagström was imported to the United States under the Goya brand.

Here, it is a beautiful model of Hagström Standard 80 P-24 dating from the early 1960s which is for sale with its original vibrato tailpiece as can be found on certain Galanti guitars from this era.
