Romantic Guitar Jérôme Thibouville Lamy 1870's / 1880's

The history of the stringed instrument industry Jérôme Thibouville Lamy dates back to 1840, when Charles Buthod, a collaborator of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, established his luthier workshop in Mirecourt.

In record time, Charles Buthod developed a large-scale workshop whose creations were marketed in France and abroad. And it was in 1848 that Charles Buthod formed an association with Charles-Claude Husson, then operating under the name HUSSON-BUTHOD.

In 1857, they welcomed Louis Emile Jérôme Thibouville, who was heir to a long tradition of wind instrument manufacturing dating back to the 18th century, at Couture Boussey in Eure.

Thus, this new company was named HUSSON - BUTHOD - THIBOUVILLE.

In 1866, Mr. Jérôme Thibouville became the owner of the company, which he renamed in 1867 "Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy" in honor of the name of his wife (Lamy).

In 1896, Alfred Acoulon took charge of the production of instruments, and in 1908 Hugues Emile Blondelet, a luthier from Mirecourt, succeeded him.

Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy was one of the largest distributors of musical instruments in France and Belgium in his time, especially at the beginning of the 20th century. This is evidenced by its numerous period catalogs representing numerous instruments and accessories of all categories.

Here this guitar offered for sale was made by Aubry fils, like a good number of guitars, just like mandolins, from this period sold by Jérôme Thibouville Lamy.

With a straight neck, a remade and adjusted bone nut and optimal tuning, this guitar is really very pleasant to play and has a sublime, very delicate sound.

Entirely original, with the exception of the nut, this guitar turns out to be a superb historical piece testifying as much to the history of the guitar from its almost 150 years of age as to the history of the brand Jérôme Thibouville Lamy.
